The Spurs Playoff Run Ends After Kawhi’s Injury

The San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors have officially finished battling it out in the Western Conference Finals of the NBA. Unfortunately for the Spurs, the season ended premature due an injury to their super star Kawhi Leonard. Leonard suffered an ankle injury in Game 1 of the series.

Ankle sprains are one of the most common injuries found throughout sports, but basketball players tend to have a higher frequency due to the constant jumping and landing. Ankle sprains are graded in severity using three stages, with the third stage known as the most severe. Anatomically there are three ligaments that make up the outside of the ankle joint.  Depending on which ligaments are injured dictates whether you have a Grade 1, 2 or 3. The ankle ligaments are crucial in stabilization and support of the ankle. After the initial injury the ligaments become inherently more unstable predisposing people to further injuries, sprains, or prolonged instability. Treatment varies from conservative to surgical.

At Healthy Feet Podiatry, we strive to get our patients better using the most conservative but helpful methods available. There are options other than traditional icing and bracing to help stabilize and treat ankle sprains. A custom orthotic with a deep heel cup is very beneficial to better control the rear foot by decreasing excess motion and reducing pain. At Healthy Feet, we also offer regenerative treatment options such as prolotherapy and PRP which both use a natural approach to treat pain and inflammation. In severe cases where conservative care fails, our physicians will be happy to discuss surgical intervention with you to get back on your feet.

It is too late for Kawhi to help his team now; but if he needs help for next season, we are only a phone call away.
