WWE Superstar Samoa Joe out Indefinitely with Plantar Fascia Rupture

Professional wrestlers work probably the most hectic schedule in all sports and are constantly putting their bodies on the line for the purpose of entertaining their audience. Unfortunately for Samoa Joe, he suffered a plantar fascia rupture recently and will be out of the ring while he recovers.

At first glance, any type of medical injury that includes the word rupture is nauseating; however in regards to the plantar fascia, it can sometimes be a blessing in disguise. Plantar fasciitis, probably the most common pain encountered in our office is a product of your foot type. All of our plantar fasciitis patients are urged to get proper orthotics for their feet because the proper arch support can help prevent your foot from flattening out; therefore, orthotics help to alleviate your foot pain. At Healthy Feet Podiatry, we offer same day orthotics for our patients, or if you have a severe foot deformity we have a brand new 3D orthotic scanning system.

Other than orthotics, plantar fasciitis is treated with stretching, icing, physical therapy, injections and regenerative medicine. For those with chronic plantar fasciitis pain, surgery may be warranted. When you undergo surgery for plantar fasciitis, a portion of the plantar fascia is actually cut and released to lengthen the band (in essence what happened to Samoa Joe). While the recovery can take 4-6 weeks, ultimately he should feel much better when all is said and done if it’s treated properly.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is another procedure to expedite and heal a plantar fascial rupture or chronic plantar fasciitis that is not improving with standard treatment.  This procedure is performed in the office by simply drawing the patient’s blood, spinning the blood down with a centrifuge and injecting the concentrated platelets into the area of pain.  This injection allows the body to heal itself with the proper blood and growth factors needed to heal an area that is injured or chronically inflamed. After one week of immobilization and no ice or anti-inflammatories, most patients return to regular shoes with custom orthotics and return to the office as needed.

So if you are working out, playing a sport or just having chronic plantar fascia pain, call us at Healthy Feet Podiatry so we can get you back on your feet!
