New York Mets Star Yoenis Cespedes Having Bilateral Heel Surgeries

News broke this week that New York Mets Start Yoenis Cespedes will be out for 8-10 months! He is having corrective surgery for bone spurs on the back side of his heel with calcifications within his achilles tendon! Cespedes has been having heel pain for some time now and was placed on injured reserve after the pain became so severe he could not play.

Does this sound familiar, or relatable? Do you have severe posterior heel pain that stops you from doing activities you wish you could do? This common condition occurs when a tight achilles tendon in the back of the leg places chronic tension on the heel bone. Inflammation comes next, which overtime calcifies and becomes bone. This is typically when the real problems start as a tendon is a very smooth gliding structure that does not respond well to bone in its path! Lucky for you, unlike Cespedes surgery may not be in your future. At Healthy Feet Podiatry we utilized state of the art regenerative medicine techniques to improve a patients posterior heel pain. We offer super pulse laser, and platelet rich plasma (PRP) both of which have provided excellent non surgical pain relief for our patients!

If all else fails and surgery is the only remaining option we can help you out there as well. No you do not need to be a professional athlete to undergo “retrocalcaneal bone spur removal”. Surgery to remove such spurs and excess bone requires the detachment and reattachment of the achilles tendon and approximately 6-8 weeks of non weight bearing recovery followed closely with physical therapy.

If you or a loved one is suffering with heel pain, or any other foot or ankle problem call us at Healthy Feet Podiatry for you same day consultation!
