Local Gators In Need of a Good Podiatrist

Football is by far one of the most demanding sports at all levels.  Injuries can happen at anytime and to anybody. Unfortunately, some of my most favorite Gators look like they are in need of a good Podiatrist.

Malik Davis, Hillsborough County’s All-Time Leading Rusher, broke his foot in September.  Although it was never disclosed what the actual bone that he fractured, the injury will cause him to miss an “extended period” of time.  This is the 2nd injury in as many years for the Florida Gators running back.

Before scoring touchdowns in Gainesville, he had an illustrious career at Jesuit High School where he ran for 5,784 yards.  He also set the mark for 71 scores. Both records are still intact to this day. We wish the sophomore running back a quick recovery.

Another Gator local product from across the bridge is also out with some broken bones except this time it’s an ankle.  Jon Halapio (pronounced like jalapeño without the ñ) is now a member of the New York Giants.   His career began at St. Petersburg Catholic High School where he earned a scholarship to the University of Florida.  His hard work earned him team captain honors for his Junior and Senior seasons. He would go on to get drafted in the 6th round of the 2014 NFL draft by the New England Patriots.  Unfortunately he got cut but reemerged this season as the starting center for the Giants. Just like Malik Davis, Halapio’s season was cut short in September. The fracture ended up requiring surgery.  All indications report to him being ready to go in 2019.
